Redistricting Fall 2024 - Revised Scenarios

The redistricting feedback boards are no longer accepting comments, but they are still available for viewing.

REDISTRICTING OVERVIEW:
As a reminder, the redistricting process is necessary due to the opening of Angeline Washington Elementary in 2025 and the need to establish new boundaries that align with a "direct feeder" model. You can learn more about the criteria and evaluation metrics on the district website. You can also view our current boundaries and background data.

Below, you will find six revised scenarios for review. Please note that these scenarios follow direct feeder patterns and we are presenting the northern and southern portions, as they can be evaluated separately. These scenarios have been updated based on community input from the original boundary scenarios, as well as the Redistricting Advisory Team's evaluations and scores.

If you would like to view each scenario and how your specific address falls within each of these scenarios, please see our interactive map.

Again, please scroll to see all six scenarios and provide your feedback. Within each scenario there will be a linked document that pops up in a new window detailing the map and associated data. You will then provide your feedback where it says "New Post" within the scenario.

If you would like a refresher as to how we got here, take a moment to hear from the team at Woolpert, our Redistricting and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analysis firm, to gain insight into the process and understand how the original scenarios were developed. To review the original boundary scenarios, visit our Redistricting - Fall 2024 forum.

  • I purchased my home to follow the Walden -> Park Hill South school boundary. My oldest attended Walden from 2021 - 2024. If we have to change to a different middle school, am I allowed to enroll and transport my child to Walden daily? Thank You

    DB asked 2 months ago

We will be working through any of these specific instances after we finalize our boundary scenario in December.

  • If I drive my drive my 5th grader to and from Congress, who is at Prairie Point now, is this available? Also, my 2nd grader would like to finish at Prairie Point and a of her friends are going to congress and Park Hill. If I take her to and from school, may she finish the Prairie Point, Congress, and Park Hill feeder? I agree with moving forward it is so important to have direct feeders. But my children are caught in the middle right now, and all their friends will be spilt up. What can be done for us families so that my children are not caught in the middle? I am happy to drive and do not expect bus service…

Kristin Turner asked 2 months ago

Kristin, can you please call me at 816.359.6085? This is Kelly Wachel, Chief Communications Officer. I have a few questions about your specific neighborhood that attends Prairie Point currently. Thanks so much!

  • For the houses, south of hwy 45, on the west side of Union Chapel Rd, that are not in Thousand Oaks or Hidden Valley. Would Union Chapel be considered instead of Angeline Washington? The transit time to Union Chapel would be less and we would not need to enter into a more congested area (based on the current business traffic), to attend Angeline Washington. The drive time to Angeline Washington can be calculated but the additional time for congestion cannot be calculated for pick up and drop off, until it opens. IF Union Chapel was considered, then for Middle school, Walden should be considered due to the traffic from west to east on hwy 45 to turn into Lakeview is almost impossible. The east to west turning into Lakeview currently allows right turn on red which backs up and almost stops the opportunity for west to east to turn left. This would also keep 100% feeder schools in the blue and green scenarios. The low number of houses in the area would probably not tip any of the data in the scenarios or move any percentages. When looking at the evaluation metrics, the utilization of Union Chapel and Walden could use take increased enrollment in the blue or the green scenario and still be in tolerable levels. The socioeconomic/diversity would probably not shift, again based on the number of houses. This does not divide any neighborhoods and does not make an attendance change.

This is received and noted! Thank you!

  • Hi! I attempted to comment under the scenarios on Friday and I received an email saying that my comment had been received, but it is still not showing up on the boards. As far as I can tell, it wouldn't go against any user agreement and there was nothing threatening, inflammatory, or overly identifying in my comment. I don't necessarily care if it doesn't get posted publicly, but I was told at the listening session on 10/14 that the best way to make sure my concerns were addressed was to comment on the forum and just want to ensure that it was received and will be considered when looking at the proposals. Is there a way to confirm that comments were received? thanks!

Jen NS asked 2 months ago

Yes, your comments were received. We can see all the comments come through. We are also working our Park Hill Listens platform/consultant to see why this comment didn't get reflected publicly. I appreciate your contribution - your thoughts are definitely noted.

  • Will current adventure club attendees be guaranteed spots to the extent they are now with adventure club in their new elementary schools if/when they are moved to a different elementary school than their current one?

    J.W. asked 2 months ago

Thank you for asking this. We'll work with our Adventure Club team to bring this up. We can add this as a consideration.

  • What does the district plan to do to ensure more adequate staffing in both bussing and adventure club? 2 of the options for South leave us without the option of carpooling/before and after school care because our sitter/driver will no longer be at the same school because they are in a different neighborhood.

    DAC asked 2 months ago

We are continually monitoring bus driver staffing and Adventure Club staffing. We are aware of the challenges. As we finalize our district boundaries in December, this is something we'll have to continue to work through.

  • Many comments are focusing on the unbalanced number of Free and Reduced lunch at the middle school level -specifically the split between Lakeview and Walden. This discrepancy has to be addressed at the elementary level before it can be at the middle school level. When you look across the south feeder elementary schools, the average number of students district wide on Free and Reduced lunch is 22.5% yet there is a huge split in the actual numbers (ranging as low as 3% in some models to as high as 39% in others). What safe guards are in place to ensure that one area/school is not becoming overpopulated with students on free and reduced lunch? None of the models at the elementary level are addressing this.

    MP asked 2 months ago

This is one of the metrics in our process. It is something we are evaluating and scoring through our whole process.

  • Will students who are going to be in 5th and 8th grade allowed to be grandfathered in? I was originally told no, but people within my building are saying yes. I would love to know the correct answer to that question prior to me giving feedback given that there isn't a plan in place to currently support students who will have to transition.

    bembrey asked 2 months ago

We are considering this option moving forward. We will be working through this as we finalize our boundaries in December.

  • It seems as though these maps were redone from the originals. Originally our address had 4 scenarios we ended up at Walden and only 2 at Lakeview...now all three are Lakeview. I'm really confused about this. I would also like clarification about what the rules will be for kids to be grandfathered into a school they are already attending. For example, my son is currently at Walden and everyone he's friends with is there. He was at Southeast and our neighborhood is now being moved to English Landing/Lakeview. Is there going to be a way that parents can choose to send their child to their old school if they provide transportation?

Aimee S asked 2 months ago

We will be considering this as we make final decisions later this fall. We understand the sentiments around this possibility.

  • If you notice on southeast elementary boundaries in riverside, 4 out of the 6 scenarios go down northwest gateway ave. And stop short of 69 ave. known as Vivion road and goes WEST zigzag a couple times. What exactly are those streets? No one I asked seems to know. I love directly in that boundary line and would like to know. Thanks
